For Pasquale Lorina, painting is an act of freedom shaped by intuition, movement, and personal expression. Working within the tradition of Abstract Expressionism, he creates vibrant compositions that evolve naturally through gesture, color, and instinct rather than a predetermined plan.
Art has been part of Lorina’s life since childhood. Inspired by his grandfather, an Italian immigrant and spun glass artist, he began painting spun glass figures at the age of ten. Today, the flowing movement and energy of that craft continue to influence his work, with some compositions reflecting the rhythmic forms created through the spinning of glass.
Lorina further developed his artistic practice through studies at the Art Students League, the mentorship of painter Don Farin, and a lifelong appreciation for the artists of the Ninth Street movement. Their commitment to individual expression remains central to his approach.
Maintaining a daily studio practice, Lorina continues to create paintings that encourage viewers to slow down, engage their imagination, and discover their own meaning within each work.
