John Choma

Abstract painting

John Choma‘s artistic practice is shaped by decades of experimentation, technical innovation, and a lasting interest in the expressive possibilities of color and process.

Working in abstraction, he creates layered compositions where fluid forms, texture, and gesture come together to suggest moments of transformation, memory, and discovery.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a BFA, Choma has explored the intersection of art and technology throughout his career. His research led to a U.S. patent for a fluid printing process and continued investigations into materials and dye techniques, including the recent development of a laser-based dye process. This spirit of experimentation remains central to his work today.

Rather than depicting specific subjects, Choma builds dynamic visual landscapes that move between order and spontaneity. Vibrant color relationships and flowing forms create a sense of movement while encouraging personal interpretation.

His work reflects a lifelong commitment to innovation, combining artistic curiosity with technical knowledge to continually expand the possibilities of abstract expression.
