Alycia Thompson explores the relationship between memory, place, and personal identity through works that transform everyday experiences into layered visual narratives.
Raised among gifted storytellers, Thompson developed an early appreciation for the power of narrative, a quality that continues to shape her artistic approach.
Rather than documenting specific events, she constructs evocative images that encourage viewers to reflect on their own experiences and the memories that influence their understanding of the world.
A recent shift from oil painting to watercolor has brought a new dimension to her practice. Combining watercolor, gouache, graphite, and archival imagery, Thompson builds intricate works that balance structure and spontaneity. Geometric and organic forms intersect across the surface, highlighting the fragmented nature of recollection and the emotional significance attached to seemingly ordinary moments.
Based in New York City, Thompson holds an MFA from the New York Academy of Art and has exhibited internationally in galleries, group exhibitions, and art fairs.
