Rina Koshkina

From her first museum visit as an infant to her early years adapting to life in America, art became Dr. Koshkina’s first language. Through color and form, she discovered a way to understand herself and the world around her, shaping the foundation of a practice that still guides her today.

With degrees in business management and finance, art history, and a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, alongside decades of leadership experience, Dr. Koshkina approaches painting as meditation and exploration into the human condition. Each canvas becomes a reflective space where psychology, symbolism, and lived narrative converge.

Her mixed-media works, combining oil, acrylic, semi-precious stones, and glass, reflect a deep fascination with resilience and repair. Nature is ever-present, with trees as steadfast witnesses and flowers as symbols of fragility, joy, and renewal.

In her Mended with Gold collection, she drew inspiration from kintsugi and tikkun olam, embracing imperfection and restoration as sources of beauty. This exploration continues in her recent series, Floral Rhapsodies, where vibrant compositions radiate warmth and movement, offering healing, celebration, and wonder.

For Dr. Koshkina, art is both personal and communal. Over the past 15 years, she has turned her practice into a platform for philanthropy, channeling exhibitions to support environmental and social causes.

In her upcoming presentation at New York, I Love You at Agora Gallery, Dr. Koshkina will continue this tradition by donating a portion of the proceeds from her art sales to the Arbor Day Foundation to support tree planting at Baisley Pond Park in Queens—a 100-acre community space in one of the city’s most heat-vulnerable neighborhoods.

Once revitalized in the 1980s, the park now faces the loss of its tree canopy due to storms, pests, and decades without new plantings.

For Dr. Koshkina, directing her contribution here is a way of honoring the city that fuels her creativity: helping renew its green spaces, offering shade and beauty to its communities, and ensuring her art leaves roots of its own.
