New York watercolor artist Laila J transforms the fleeting world of street art into works that last.
With American and Italian roots, her creative path began in Milan, where she studied at the Institute of Interior Design and earned a BA in Interior Design.
Later, in New York, she pursued an MA at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and studied under Frederick Brosen at the Art Students League, shaping her refined yet deeply personal style.
Laila J’s inspiration comes directly from the streets. Walking through the Lower East Side, Soho, and the West Village, she photographs graffiti and murals before translating them into detailed sketches.
With watercolor, she builds soft washes into layers of luminous color, preserving not just the look but the spirit of the original works.
Her paintings do more than document as they carry the emotion, vitality, and raw energy of New York’s urban voice. Through her practice, Laila J becomes both painter and storyteller, offering a visual archive of the city’s living culture.
