Dr. W. Saint-lamar, an African-American physician and artist, brings a rare dual perspective to the world of contemporary painting.
By day, he serves as an emergency trauma physician, a role defined by urgency, intensity, and human fragility.
In 2022, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, he turned to painting as both refuge and release. What began as a way to soothe the weight of loss in the emergency room quickly grew into a vibrant artistic practice that now defines a vital part of his identity.
Working primarily with acrylic and oil pastel on canvas, Saint-lamar creates bold, expressive works alive with reds, blues, yellows, and golds.
His landscapes and glowing scenes, often inspired by international travel, pulse with unspoken emotion, inviting viewers to feel as much as they see. Influenced by Jacob Lawrence, Horace Pippin, Matisse, Van Gogh, Basquiat, and the Expressionists, his art carries forward a legacy of fearless color and unfiltered humanity.
For Saint-lamar, each canvas is an act of restoration, an effort to remind the world of beauty too easily overlooked, and to leave behind something that stirs both spirit and smile.
