Spanish artist Gustavo Paredes Gainzarain, known as Gus Paredes, creates photographs that feel like stepping into another world.
With a background in graphic design, he approaches photography like building a story—every color, shadow, and gesture is intentional.
Before the camera even clicks, Paredes sketches each idea, carefully planning lighting, wardrobe, and atmosphere. This process allows him to shape images that feel surreal, sometimes unsettling, but always thought-provoking.
Paredes’s work does more than capture beauty—it challenges the viewer to pause and question what they see. His photographs often play with strangeness and distortion, inviting the audience into a space where reality bends into imagination.
Influenced by artists such as Magritte, Lynch, and Recuenco, he explores themes that blur the line between the familiar and the uncanny.
Since winning first prize at the 5th Helie Memorial International Contest in 2016, Paredes has received international recognition, including honors from the Chromatic Awards and the International Photography Awards.
His upcoming exhibitions include 333Gallery in Bangkok (June 2025) and a digital showcase in New York City (October 2025).
