Keta Gandhi

I was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, into a family privileged not only in affluence but also in thought and action. From an early age, the importance of self-exploration, experimentation, and creating something new was instilled in me by my parents, who were my first teachers. I still recall fond memories of working with colored sand, henna cones, and other materials that laid the foundation of my artistic practice.

During my academic years from 1996 to 2005, I had the opportunity to explore a range of techniques related to my work. I focused on printmaking, a medium in which I found both comfort and direction, and which helped shape my visual language. My practice has since evolved through movement across different media, absorbing each experience and extending into miniature murals, painting, and traditional Indian art forms.

My work often centers on the archetypal female figure, celebrating her presence within the rhythms of daily life. Monumental figures are frequently placed in domestic settings, accompanied by objects and animals—such as cats, fish, and cows—that function as symbolic elements within layered narratives. The imagery is direct and spontaneous, emerging from memory and intuition, evoking fragments of lived and imagined experience.

While many works share a similar format, each holds its own story. Through layers, glazes, and surface variations, emotional states—resilience, resignation, and suffering—are revealed.

Expanding my technical range is not only a professional goal, but the continuation of a journey that began in my home country. Returning to this practice represents the realization of a lifelong commitment to giving form to my artistic vision.
