David Grabstald

I am an Indianapolis-based abstract artist working in alcohol inks, acrylics, and watercolor. My vibrant and expressive compositions are rooted in movement, memory, and emotional resonance.

Drawing inspiration from nature, family history, and his travels across Europe and Central America, I create layered works that balance spontaneity with intention. Color becomes both language and atmosphere, holding joy, humor, nostalgia, and reflection within the same visual field.

Originally from Texas, and having relocated from San Francisco to Indianapolis in 2023, my recent work reflects a renewed sense of clarity and purpose. At the core of my practice is a belief in connection, that art can invite viewers to pause, feel, and recognize something of themselves in the experience.
