Catherine Goba

Working under the name Burnout, my practice is rooted in the body -- not as an ideal, but as a site of tension, memory, and endurance. Making is approached as a necessary act, one that allows for the processing of what cannot always be articulated through language. The work is guided by intuition, where material, texture, and gesture become extensions of internal states.

The practice explores the space between depletion and creation -- the moment when something begins to break down and, in doing so, reveals a new form. Through layered surfaces and unresolved compositions, it engages with themes of healing, vulnerability, and transformation without seeking resolution. Instead, contradiction is allowed to exist: softness alongside resistance, fragility within strength.

There is no fixed outcome in the process. Each piece functions as both a release and a record, documenting an ongoing negotiation with the body and its limitations. The work becomes less about representation and more about presence -- what it means to continue, to adapt, and to exist within constant change.

Burnout is not only an alias, but a framework that holds space for exhaustion, survival, and the possibility of renewal.
