Diego Alcalde
The work draws its inspiration from the human condition and its coexistence with others, as well as with nature—flora, fauna, and the environments in which life unfolds. It reflects on what the world offers and the value and significance attributed to these relationships.
Recent work is inspired by fluvial elements, with water serving as both a means of transport and a source of life. Its movement becomes a symbol of change, transformation, and adaptation.
The work expresses admiration and respect for nature, often incorporating animals in symbolic and playful ways, with primates appearing as recurring subjects. Flora is used as a symbol of offering—both to life and to what lies beyond—suggesting light and hope.
Most works are executed in oil on canvas, with some incorporating gold leaf, bronze, and silver.
The artist travels extensively, gathering themes and imagery through sketches, drawings, and photographs, which are later developed and composed in the studio.
