Karl Wilkes is recognized as an internationally renowned arts award-winning accomplished artist and educator whose work is deeply rooted in his African American heritage. With a Master of Arts from Clemson University, Wilkes excels in painting, fine arts, and teaching. As a curator and studio artist based in Columbia, South Carolina, he creates evocative pieces using watercolors, pen, ink, acrylics, oils, and metalwork. His art combines reality with spiritual and mystical elements, drawing on African and Christian symbols. Wilkes is dedicated to making a difference with his gift, aiming to educate and empower society. Through his commitment to arts education, with works in a plethora of galleries and museums including the National Black Archives he is passionate about mentoring young artists and supporting historically Black colleges and universities nationwide promoting diversity. Wilkes strives to leave a lasting fingerprint on the world.
