Chatchai Notananda

Painting and printmaking · Thailand

Chatchai Notananda was born in Thailand and lives there today. As such, his art mainly comments on Thai contemporary culture. Soaking up the natural, rural scenery of Thailand, he renders it into his abstract artwork. Notananda makes sure not to take everything he sees at face value, often noticing that there may be other meanings and stories hiding beneath the surface. Notananda then aims to reduce the forms he retains in his inner thoughts into the visual language of abstraction. His work is characterized by a unique blend of emotional states and semiotics, using acrylic painting techniques and silkscreen printmaking. Additionally, he creates sound art, offering viewers new perspectives on culture and art.

Notananda received a Master of Visual Arts from Chiang Mai University and is a PhD in Art candidate. He exhibited extensively in galleries locally and internationally. In addition to art, Notananda devotes himself to music. He is a DJ and a founding member and drum machine player of EARSBLEED, a band known for its improvisational performances.
