Timothy Balboni is an artist based in New York who works primarily with abstract and landscape themes. Geometric shapes are a common thread of the two genres. In his landscape works, he often explores the connection between urban structures and natural environments.
He holds a BA in Fine Art from Southern Connecticut State University and an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University, where he also studied painting, photography, and printmaking.
His United Shapes series conveys the sensory overload of modern media through fragmented shapes and patterns. More recently, Balboni has been creating low-relief sculptures using wood, canvas, and plexiglass, resulting in dynamic pieces that change as viewers move by the works.
In his latest works, he has returned to painting landscapes in oil. The smaller paintings have an intimate plein-air feeling, while his larger works, some of which are seen here, focus on cityscapes, depicting the blend of architecture and everyday life. Balboni has exhibited in many venues, including Christie’s and the Salmagundi Club.
