Mauricio Valencia Cardenas is a self-taught artist from the Magallanes region in Chile. He combines classical painting techniques with modern materials like chipboard (OSB).
By using traditional oil and acrylic paints on this unusual surface, he creates unique textures that offer new expressive possibilities while maintaining the precision of realist painting.
Valencia’s work often reflects Patagonia’s cultural and historical richness, focusing on its landscapes and people. With over 30 years of experience, he has exhibited his art across Chile and internationally in countries like Spain, China, and Mexico.
His piece “Tulio” is part of the permanent collection at the MEAM Museum in Barcelona. In late 2024, Valencia will hold a solo exhibition featuring works on chipboard at the Museo Palacio Vergara in Viña del Mar, Chile.
Besides his art, Valencia is actively involved in teaching painting through community workshops in the Magallanes region.
