Kyunghee Lee, a South Korean wood engraving printmaker and contemporary painter, focuses on themes of human desire and social dynamics.
A graduate of Ewha Womans University, she has held 18 solo exhibitions and participated in group shows around the world, including in New York, Mexico, France, and China. She has been recognized as a finalist for awards such as the Sovereign Asian Art Prize and the New York, I Love You show and has received honors like the Van Gogh Tribute Award.
Lee’s work explores repressed desires and anxieties in modern society, emphasizing connections that go beyond traditional divides such as East vs. West or reality vs. myth.
Influenced by Eastern philosophies, she examines issues like social violence and materialism, using her art as a meditative process to reframe these themes. Combining traditional techniques like wood engraving and Ebru marbling with modern collage, Lee creates striking pieces that invite reflection on equality, interconnectedness, and the human experience.
