Aya Iwakami

Mixed media

As I work as a makeup artist, I understand that makeup is something that makes people look beautiful on a daily basis, but I always pursue how to express makeup as art. Masters like Serge Lutens, a legend in the makeup world, greatly influence me. I try to create inhuman figures and express their beauty and mystery to the fullest by putting makeup on people’s faces.

I attempted to elevate my work to art by combining it with the graphic design I studied at the UCLA Extension graphic design course, which I graduated from in 2018, and mixing makeup with a genre of digital media art. Additionally, I attempted to convey the essence of Japanese beauty, which is my home country, in my work. All makeup, creative direction, and graphic design in my work are done by me, with photography support from Stefen Pompee and Andrew French.
