Peter Strid

Mixed media painting · Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

For Peter Strid, a vinyl record is more than a piece of music history. It is an object that carries memory, emotion, and personal connection.

Through his distinctive Rock Legends series, the Philadelphia-based artist transforms vintage album covers into richly layered paintings that celebrate the musicians who shaped generations and the listeners who carried their music through their lives.

Working in oil paint on handcrafted wood panels, Strid begins by carefully sourcing original records from record shops and private collections. The albums become an integral part of the composition, serving as both material and narrative foundation.

Painted portraits emerge from these surfaces, creating works that exist somewhere between fine art, cultural archive, and tribute.

Formally trained in studio art and art history, Strid combines traditional painting techniques with a contemporary approach to storytelling. His work explores the enduring relationship between music and memory, inviting viewers to revisit the artists, songs, and experiences that continue to resonate long after the final track has ended.

Today, his paintings are collected internationally and have attracted a dedicated following among both art collectors and music enthusiasts.
