Bud Hambleton

Bud Hambleton was an American sculptor celebrated for work that explored movement, emotion, and the beauty found in both people and nature. From expressive figurative sculptures to stylized animal forms and abstract works, Hambleton created pieces filled with warmth, character, and a strong sense of life.

Raised in Jamestown, New York, Hambleton developed an early connection to the outdoors while helping on his grandfather's farm. After studying sculpting and drafting in Rochester, he served in the United States Army during World War II, where he continued sketching scenes and fellow soldiers throughout his travels in the Pacific. These experiences later influenced the sensitivity and observation present throughout his artistic practice.

Following the war, Hambleton refined his skills in wood, stone, marble, and eventually welded steel, the medium that became central to his work. Despite the physical strength of steel, his sculptures carried a remarkable sense of softness and movement, capturing quiet human moments and the grace of animals with equal care.
