Working with mixed media including acrylic, encaustic, oil, and plaster, Refuerzo approaches each piece through an intuitive process of layering, scraping, and rebuilding. Many works begin as simple sketches before evolving naturally on canvas or wood surfaces. She is especially drawn to painting on wood, where the surface allows the paint to move and settle in unexpected ways.
