Emily Johnson, known professionally as EJ Lee, is a Baltimore-based mixed media collage artist and art educator whose work challenges conventional perspectives on language and communication.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and a minor in Art History from McDaniel College and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from Maine College of Art and Design, she combines an academic foundation with an innovative artistic vision.
EJ Lee’s work explores the English language through the perspective of dyslexia, using poetry to challenge traditional ways of reading and understanding.
Her art encourages viewers to slow down and engage with language differently, turning it from a barrier into an immersive experience. This approach highlights the challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia and non-native speakers, fostering both understanding and connection.
Her work has been recognized internationally, with exhibitions including the Modern Art Masters Fair at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, the National Collage Society’s 39th Annual Juried Show at Kean University, and the Golden exhibition at Impact Gallery in Washington, D.C.
