Dark Energy Studio

Video art and photography · Naarm/Melbourne, Australia

Alexandra Gowing is an Australian video artist based in Naarm/Melbourne, known for her multidisciplinary approach that blends photography, video, sound, and found imagery. Since 1999, occult philosophies have deeply influenced her work, exploring the subconscious through automatic drawing and writing.

In 2008, Gowing expanded her practice to include painting, sculpture, and sound, eventually focusing on video art and photography as her primary mediums during her studies at the University of Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts.

In 2022, Gowing established Dark Energy Studio, a video art production label that merges visual storytelling with noise composition.

Her work critiques global capitalism and explores themes of religion, psychology, mythology, and the occult, reflecting on existential questions.
