Sculpture has always been the purest, most unfiltered way for me to work through and express my innermost feelings. Through sculpture I communicate with myself and then the world in ways I cannot comprehend intellectually or articulate verbally. Each sculpture captures an emotional moment as I navigate choices and resolve inner conflicts at pivotal moments during my life journey. Peacock Flirt is part of a series that I created when I was shut-in during Covid, and I would make frequent visits to watch a flock of peacocks that lived nearby during their social hours. I envied the freedom they gloriously exhibited as they shared their beauty with their world, and were able to fly anywhere whenever they wanted. They were my emotional metaphor for a return to normalcy during Covid
New Series called “Visual Orchestra”- My internal quest for harmony: Yearning for a Peaceful Coexistence”.
My latest body of work is a mixed media series called “Visual Orchestra”
This current series was inspired as a metaphor for harmony in society that I wish for. Blending seemingly disparate, incompatible mediums (like people with different viewpoints) and having the unique characteristics of each actually be what is needed in order to create a beautiful, harmonious symphony. I have turned inward in an intensive learning journey of artistic techniques (most new to me), but many from ancient foreign civilizations, (as a metaphor for what I wish for the world), and then combining seemingly incompatible materials and techniques to create a completely new stye and harmonious work of art that may have seemed impossible before. Learning these lessons from cultures different from mine to create my own harmonious, beautiful world where everything (and everyone) gets along, and actually appreciates our differences, and how learning from one another stimulates and enriches our lives the most.
(Again, my wishful metaphor that life will imitate my art)
