Steve Fogel

Agora Gallery, 530 W 25th Street, New York, NY 10001

For more than four decades, photography has been an important part of Steve Fogel’s life. A retired physician and fine art photographer, Fogel brings a trained eye for observation, structure, detail, and form to a photographic practice spanning architecture, nature, urban imagery, travel, macro and botanical photography, and abstraction.

Photography began as a passion for travel and documentary images before developing into a broader artistic practice. Today, Fogel uses the camera not simply to record a subject, but to reveal details and relationships that might otherwise go unnoticed. Light, texture, pattern, structure, and form become central elements, often transforming familiar subjects into something less immediately recognizable.

Fogel’s medical background has also influenced his approach to photography. Years of careful observation in medicine developed an attentiveness to subtle differences and relationships, an approach that now informs the way he sees and photographs the world.

Much of his recent work moves between representation and abstraction. An architectural detail, reflection, flower, surface, or fragment of nature can become the starting point for an image that encourages a closer look.

Fogel’s photographs have been selected for exhibitions and juried competitions and have received recognition in international photography and fine art competitions. Across his work, a consistent focus remains: to slow the viewer down and reveal the unexpected within the familiar.
