Solange Singer
Solange Singer is a self-taught artist whose creative practice grew from a lifelong love of art and more than three decades in the fashion industry. Born in Haiti and raised in Connecticut after moving to the United States at age four, Singer later studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where she eventually made the city her home.
For more than 30 years, Singer worked as a still life fashion stylist before gradually transitioning her focus to art. Her background in fashion continues to inform her visual approach, particularly her interest in color, style, and presentation.
Working primarily with mixed media, Singer incorporates collage elements, rubber bands, embellishments, and three-dimensional effects to create works with depth and visual interest. Her bold, vibrant colors draw inspiration from the universe, landscapes, fashion, and the work of other artists.
A recurring element in her paintings is a hidden heart, which she includes as a personal symbol of love and positivity. Women’s confidence is another central theme, with hair serving as a powerful symbol of strength and identity. For Singer, hair is a crown, and her art celebrates the confidence that comes with embracing it.
