Michael Dangel
German printmaker MiDa, lives and works in Wermelskirchen near Cologne. Born in Remscheid in 1960, he studied printing technology in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Wuppertal, earning a Diploma in Engineering.
His technical background continues to shape a practice that combines traditional printmaking with contemporary digital processes.
MiDa works across woodcut, etching, lithography, digital illustration, sketching, and 2D animation, while also experimenting with techniques such as polyester lithography, drypoint on Tetra Pak, and Japanese color woodblock printing.
His work addresses contemporary concerns including democracy, human relationships, urban life, fragmentation, and perception, often reducing complex ideas to clear and focused graphic forms.
A member of the German Federal Association of Visual Artists, MiDa also serves as Chairman of the Wermelskirchen Art Association, organizing and curating exhibitions.
In 2025, he was selected as a winner of the Metropolitan Melodies Competition, hosted by New York Art Competitions.
