Madhulika is an Indian-born, self-taught contemporary artist based in Rhode Island, USA.
Beginning her artistic journey at the age of sixty, she brings decades of travel, cultural experience, and close observation of women and communities into her work.
Working primarily in oil, acrylic, charcoal, mixed media, and digital art, Madhulika combines figurative abstraction with elements of Cubism.
Women are central to her practice, appearing through fragmented faces, expressive eyes, veils, and layered forms. Her paintings explore identity, motherhood, resilience, vulnerability, memory, spirituality, and the experiences that often remain unspoken.
Color plays an important role in her work, with vivid tones and earthy palettes reflecting her Indian heritage and adding emotional depth to each composition. Her recurring use of eyes speaks to the stories held within a person, expressing emotions that words may not fully convey.
Madhulika has exhibited in India, the United States, London, and Venice. Her work is guided by a belief in “art with purpose,” using painting as a way to encourage reflection, connection, and a deeper understanding of the human experience.
