Insuk Shin

New York-based multidisciplinary artist and architectural designer Insuk Shin combines sculpture, mixed media, and architectural thinking to consider the relationships between living forms, objects, and the systems around them.

He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute and a Master of Science from Columbia University, with more than a decade of experience in architecture and design.

Shin works with polymer clay, found objects, plastics, mechanical parts, and fabricated elements, often combining organic forms with artificial and mechanical components.

His practice considers themes of care, possession, memory, and perception, while his architectural background informs his approach to structure, scale, material, and space.

His sculpture Mute was shortlisted for the VAA International Exhibition & Scholarship Prize. Shin was also selected as a winner of the 2025 Metropolitan Melodies Competition, hosted by New York Art Competitions.

Through familiar yet ambiguous forms, Shin invites viewers to question their assumptions and leave with a thought rather than a conclusion.
