Heejae Hong

Agora Gallery, 530 W 25th Street, New York, NY 10001

Heejae Hong brings together the energy of contemporary city life with symbols of Korean tradition. With an MFA in Painting from Hongik University’s Graduate School of Fine Arts, Hong has presented 11 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 100 group exhibitions in Korea and abroad. Recent recognition includes the 2026 Seoul Metropolitan Government Mayor’s Award and the 2025 Peace Culture Award.

At the center of Hong’s paintings is a meeting between the familiar and the symbolic. Simplified cityscapes appear alongside flowers, cars, geometric forms, vertical lines, and Korean white porcelain. The Korean white porcelain serves as a vessel for blessings and good fortune, while flowers and city scenes suggest abundance, vitality, and hope. Vertical lines add a sense of growth and forward movement.

Hong uses vivid color and flat forms to create an optimistic view of modern life. Through this balance of traditional imagery and contemporary urban forms, Heejae Hong creates paintings rooted in Korean culture while looking toward the possibilities of modern life.
