George Tutuska

Born in Buffalo, New York, in 1965, George grew up in South Buffalo in a working-class Irish Catholic community. From an early age, he felt compelled to draw the things he noticed and experienced around him. As a child, he would use No. 2 pencils and lined paper to put his perceptions into images, encouraged by his mother to see and express the world in his own way.

At 18, George’s creative path shifted toward music. He became deeply involved in the Buffalo music scene and eventually co-founded the band Goo Goo Dolls with a friend he had met at a local college. Music remained a defining part of his life for decades, while drawing and painting continued alongside it.

George wrote and performed on the Goo Goo Dolls’ first five recordings, including the triple-platinum album A Boy Named Goo. He also designed the cover artwork for the band’s earlier album Superstar Car Wash. The cover received critical attention and was later recognized by Rolling Stone among its top 100 album covers of all time.

Today, George continues to work across creative disciplines as a visual artist, drummer, musician, songwriter, and drum instructor in Buffalo. His return to visual art reflects the same instinct that shaped his earliest drawings: a desire to make sense of the complexity he sees around him and to express it in his own way.
