Catherine Khomari is a photographic artist working at the intersection of traditional darkroom photography and contemporary painterly interpretation.
She began her practice with analog black-and-white photography, developing her own negatives and producing gelatin silver prints in the darkroom.
Her early work was influenced by Ansel Adams and his approach to tonal range, light, and shadow. Her gelatin silver prints and photographic collages were exhibited in Palo Alto, California.
Over time, Khomari expanded her practice into color, drawing inspiration from Vincent van Gogh and Camille Pissarro, particularly their use of atmosphere, shifting light, and complex color relationships. These influences gradually shaped a softer, painterly approach to photography while retaining the discipline of her darkroom training.
Her current work focuses on architecture, memory, atmosphere, and solitude. She views the built environment as a witness to human experience, history, and the passage of time.
In 2026, Khomari exhibited her Impressions of the Empire series at Artexpo New York, participated in Emptiness, and was published in Artistonish Contemporary Art Magazine. She works from her studio, Nooré Atelier.
