Amanda Melvin

Agora Gallery, 530 W 25th Street, New York, NY 10001

Curiosity is at the center of Amanda Melvin’s approach to painting. A self-taught artist, Melvin uses each canvas as an opportunity to explore how color, texture, and form can communicate feeling.

Working primarily in acrylic and oil, she moves between portraiture and abstraction, combining recognizable elements with expressive brushwork and intuitive marks.

Her compositions develop through a balance of intention and experimentation, allowing the relationships between color and form to guide the direction of each work.

For Melvin, the process is as important as the finished painting. Rather than seeking perfection, she embraces the unexpected and allows each piece to become part of an ongoing process of learning and discovery. This approach gives her work a sense of movement and openness, with each painting reflecting a particular stage in her artistic development.

Through this continued exploration, Amanda Melvin creates works that invite viewers to consider emotion through color, gesture, and form, while offering a glimpse into the artist’s own evolving visual language.
