Akemi Fujita

Akemi Fujita found her artistic direction in driftwood. After studying oil painting at university, she became fascinated by the natural shapes, textures, and character of wood shaped by water. This fascination led her from painting into three-dimensional art.

Fujita carefully works with each piece of driftwood collected from a dam, allowing its original texture and form to guide the finished work. One of her most recognizable details is the use of expressive eyes, which bring personality and humor to the natural material. Through this playful approach, each piece of wood takes on a new presence.

Her work balances the raw beauty of nature with a sense of charm and imagination. Fujita hopes her sculptures bring a moment of warmth and a smile to those who encounter them.

Her work has been exhibited extensively in Japan and New York, including solo exhibitions at Salem Gallery in New York and exhibitions at Agora Gallery.
